GILBERT
I just watched What's Eating Gilbert Grape!
JOHNNY DEPP WAS IN IT.
It's one of my favourite movies now!
And not just because of johnny depp. It is, and i quote from the trailer, "an unusual story about life". It is intriguing how small town life can become so dramatic around small town issues.
Juliette Lewis who is really pretty, Leonardo DiCaprio with an Oscar nominated performance as Arnie Grape, Crispin Glover the "Creepy Thin Man" from Charlie's Angels and Mary Steenburgen who played Joan's mother in Joan of Arcadia are in it too.
Lots of great stories can come out of life in small towns. Dysfunctional, quirky, dramatic and sometimes horrific. Like the Wyoming stories in Close Range by Annie Proulx. I only read Brokeback Mountain and 55 Miles To The Gas Pump. Because it was getting too disturbing for comfort. Brokeback Mountain is incredibly sad.
Especially the heart-wrenching moment went Jack tells Ennis "I wish i knew how to quit you."
Gilmore girls is about life in a small town too; Stars Hollow. The entire town is like an outpatient mental health facility. With the exception of Lorelai and Rory of course but especially Kirk. A FILM BY KIRK. i still cant get over it. HAHA
And jessica just told me something really awesome! After seeing her pictures from the fashion shoot our group did last thursday, ms chan, who taught us for the fashion photog course wants to hire her as a model for a photoshoot!
I shall load the pics on flickr soon, when i get them from school hopefully tomorrow. There's gonna be an exhibition of the photos from all the groups' fashion shoots at the koi pond next tuesday too.
Options have been great so far. Narrative film making started on Tuesday!! We got to see some short films and wrote our love triangle story. Today was the first lesson on the origins of the Arab-Israeli conflict. We watched a video too, and "witnessed" the birth of Israel. Tomorrow i'll start pharmaceutical chemistry. Ooh i'm exciteddd (:
I went to the libary@orchard again today. I love that place!
I have 3 new books now!
1) Three Incestuous Sisters by Audrey Niffeger which took her 14 years to create. By create i mean write, illustrate, typeset, bind. And i read it in 5 minutes. Ah.
2) How I Became Stupid by Martin Page which is a about a poor little intelligent guy Antoine who wants to become stupid so that he no longer has to suffer the burden of his intelligence.
3) Palestine by Joe Sacco which is a comic book (i am now hooked on them after Watchmen!) which will hopefully help with "origins of the arab-israel conflict"
and i borrowed Sideways by Rex Pickett again because i didn't finish it the first time.
Many happy hours of reading ahead (:
